FINDELL, Leslie C. Leslie C. "Les" Findell died August 4, 2013 after a long illness. He was married for 57 years to the late Alice Wilson Findell, who passed away in 2003. Les was born in Cambridge, Minnesota, on February 8, 1922, the son of Arthur and Selma Lundeen Findell. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. An aeronautical engineer by education, after the war he worked in the airplane industry for several years before joining his father-in-law, William L. Wilson, at Wilson Auto Sales, later known as Wilson Ford. Les quickly transitioned from the airplane business to the car business with an associate degree in business from New Haven College. When Mr. Wilson retired in the late 1960's, Les became Dealer Principal, a position he held until the business was sold in 2001. As a resident of Branford, Les quickly came to share Alice's love of the water, and boating was a favorite activity for them and their family. Les was active as a director of the Branford Savings Bank, a director of the Pine Orchard Yacht and Country Club, and a past president and multiple Paul Harris Fellow of the Branford Rotary Club. He was one of the five co-founders of the Branford Rotary Foundation in 1968. Les is survived by his children, Susanne Lendler Marsh and her husband, Charles Marsh, of Branford, Nalda Rothe and her husband, Dr. Desider Rothe, of West Hampton, New York; and Leslie W. Findell and his wife, Susan Findell, of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He also leaves his grandchildren, Robert Lendler (Jennifer), Amanda Lendler Lawler (Joe), David Lendler (Kate), Ingrid Pascalli (Frank), Christopher Rothe, Elizabeth Findell, Braden Findell, and William Findell. He also leaves behind six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Muriel Finn and Dorothy Vizenor, and a brother, Roger Findell. In addition to his wife, Alice, he was predeceased by his son William Findell, brother Clifford Findell, and a sister Marjorie Bingham. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, at the First Congregational Church of Branford. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations might be made to the William A. Findell Scholarship at Hopkins School, 985 Forest Road, New Haven, CT 06510 or the Branford Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 593, Branford, CT 06405.
