MARJORIE G. BUSSMANN Obituary
BUSSMANN, MARJORIE GILLIS Marjorie Gillis Bussmann, beloved wife of Kenneth Bussmann of Wallingford, died Sunday July 13, 2014 in Connecticut Hospice, Branford. Mrs. Bussmann was born in New Haven, August 30, 1957, daughter of Ruth Harris Gillis of Branford, and the late Frank L. Gillis. She graduated with honors from the University of Texas School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse, having worked at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford and Traveler’s Insurance. She was a former member of the New Haven Junior League and the New Haven Country Club. Margie was a very strong person, who was loved and respected by everyone. Twenty years ago she was diagnosed with ocular melanoma and took bold and aggressive action. As a result, it went into remission for over 17 years. At that point, it metastasized and she advocated bravely for two and half years for herself, research and others. Besides her husband and mother she is survived by her son, Kyle Bussmann of Wallingford; her brothers, Frank L. “Chip” (Margie) Gillis of Westport, CT, and James “Rocky” Gillis of Westbrook, CT; her mother-in-law, Marion Bussmann of Cheshire; brother-in-law Jack (Nancy) Bussmann of Cheshire; sisters-in-law, Beth (Chip) Wilby and Barb (Jim) Lyke of Cheshire, and Tracey Gillis of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides her father, she was predeceased by her brother, Thomas “Doc” Gillis and father-in-law, Jack Bussmann. Friends may call Wednesday from 5 – 8 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday morning at 11:00 in St. Therese Church, Branford. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Master’s Manna (a non-profit serving the local poor) 46 North Industrial Plains Road, Wallingford, CT 06492, or to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
