GARCIA-NEGRON, MIGUEL ANGEL Miguel Angel García-Negrón, 68, of North Haven, CT and Hato Rey, PR, died June 20, 2014 at Yale-New Haven Hospital surrounded by family and loved ones. The son of Miguel Angel García del Rosario and Rosalina Negrón-Nogueras, “Bu” was a devoted and loving father and grandfather who is survived by his daughter, Irma Elizabeth, son, Miguel Angel, grandsons, Justin Michael and Lleyton Stephen, longtime companion and fellow opera and travel enthusiast, Rose, and former wife and close friend, Irma. A graduate of the University of Puerto Rico and Yale University, Miguel began his academic career as a professor of mathematics at the University of New Haven, leaving to become one of the founding professors of Greater New Haven State Technical College which eventually became Gateway Community College. He retired in December, 2013, having served as a dedicated teacher and the long-time Chair and Program Coordinator of the Mathematics and Science Department. A great lover of music and passionate advocate of the arts, he was an extremely active volunteer in the New Haven arts community for many years serving on the boards of several organizations including the Neighborhood Music School, Artspace, and the New Haven Symphony. A lover of travel, Miguel always returned to his beloved birthplace of Puerto Rico to visit with his extended family, enjoy the warm waters of the beautiful beaches, and indulge in gastronomic delights especially from the mango tree at his home. His family would like to express its sincerest appreciation to the dedicated nurses, doctors, and other medical and non-medical personnel of MICU 9 for the extraordinary care and compassion demonstrated during his time in the hospital. Interment will be private. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, July 26th at 10:00 a.m. at Battell Chapel at Yale University.
