Mark Beers Obituary

Beers, Mark Steven Mark Steven Beers, age 51, of Southbury, CT, died suddenly on September 3, 2013. Mark was a devoted and loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Laura Elaine Webb-Beers, his three sons, Mark Tyler Beers, Steven Robert Beers and Chaz Alan Joseph Fernandes. His parents Mark L. and Carole Ann Beers, Brother, David (Jeanette) Beers, Sister Allison (CJ) Beers-Jacheo and several nieces and nephews. Born in Milford, CT, Mark was raised in West Haven where he was a graduate of West Haven High School. In his time there he was an outstanding player on the Varsity football team. He was employed by Dichello Distributors for nineteen years. From there, he served in the United States Army for many years and was a respected, decorated soldier, serving his country at many duty stations throughout the world. After leaving the Army, he owned and operated Zeb's Fish House in West Haven. It didn't take long for Mark's military background to call him back to service, taking a position with the Department of Defense as a Retrieval Specialist overseas. He served during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn. Mark's driving motivation to return to service was his desire to help the children of Iraq. During his time overseas, he earned the respect and admiration of the US Troops, Foreign Nationals and the Iraqi Civilian force that he worked and served alongside. His loss is mourned here and throughout the world by his family, friends and those whose lives he touched. Friends and family may visit Tuesday between 4 and 8pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. At 7pm, prayer and remembrance will be offered. At 7:30pm, military honors will be rendered. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to www.gofundme.com/484r80 to benefit Mark's survivors. For online condolences please visit www.westhavenfuneral.com

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Mark Steven Beers our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Mark. And to Mark it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom while deployed with the U.S. Army. Mark, you are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Mark's family and loved ones.

I am so sorry for the loss of Mark....try and take comfort in knowing he is with The Lord walking on streets of gold. God must have needed another angel. He will be waiting for all of his family at the pearly white gates leading into heaven to show you all around. Lean on God when you are weak for strength and courage to go on.
