Dear Mrs. Mischler,
I'm sorry I haven't seen you recently, but do want you to know how much you meant to me. When Peter and I were closest, during middle school and high school, I spent more time at your house than my own. You were a very kind woman, feeding me without hesitation, including me at holidays, remembering my birthdays, and so on. Plenty of times you suspected we were up to something, as we usually were, but you always respected us and let boys be boys. However, when you caught Pete and I drinking a beer, you let us have it good, as you should have. Thank you for that.
I visited Pete and Barbara at your house just before it was sold a couple of years ago. The memories that came back were incredible. With all your kids it's not a stretch to say that there was plenty of life there. To this day I don't believe there's any place on earth where I've laughed so much as in your home.
Mr. Mischler was kind to me, as well. I miss him, and Billy, and sadly now you. I'm 50 now, and have grown to appreciate more than ever the value of family and friends. Thank you for raising your family as you did, for they were my closest friends during that time, and much of what has shaped me came from within your walls.
Joe, Mary Kate, Peter, Barbara, Michael, and Ellen, I am very sorry for your loss… thank god you have each other. Peace.
