Michael Pitingoro Obituary

PITINGORO, MICHAEL S. " BUCKY" Michael S. "Bucky" Pitingoro, 90, peacefully entered into eternal rest on September 12, 2013, at Harborside Health Care/Arden House in Hamden. He was the beloved husband of the late Lucy Nicoletti Pitingoro. Mr. Pitingoro was born in Ansonia on Dec. 24, 1922, son of the late Angelo and Josephine Sampieri Pitingoro. A proud veteran, he honorably served during WW II in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Niblack. He had lived in Ansonia his entire life before moving to Seymour 18 years ago. He was the owner and operator of the former Bucky's Market, a small grocery store, in Ansonia for many years and later was employed in the produce department for several locations of Stop & Shop until his retirement. He never tired of the grocery business because it afforded him the opportunity to continue existing relationships and develop new friendships. Bucky traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada, enjoyed visiting the casino, playing cards with his family, crossword puzzles, reading, cooking, Italian music. Above all, nothing made him happier than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church and a member of its Catholic Men's Club. He was also a member of the St. Sebastian Men's Club and an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and Ansonia Chargers. He was always very proud of his affiliation with the former Ritz Boys Club in Ansonia. He is survived by two loving daughters, Susan Nargi (Robert) of Ansonia and June Sweeney (Dennis) of North Haven, a brother, Joseph Pitingoro of Ansonia, four cherished grandchildren, Gina Mowad (John) of Waterbury, Mark Sweeney of Southington and his fianc Michelle Duchemin of Wallingford, Lea Whipple (Kyle) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Katie Sweeney of North Haven, two great-granddaughters, Haylee Mowad and Ava Whipple and numerous nieces and Nephews. He was predeceased by his twin brother, James Pitingoro, sisters, Angelina Tuccio, Michaelina Lombardi and Josephine Giannone and a great-grandson, Jacob Mowad. Each member of his family had a very special place in his heart and memory. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, September 16, 2013, at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Visiting will take place prior to mass from 8:30 am until the procession leaves for church at the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Interment with U.S. Navy military honors will follow in Mt. St. Peter's Cemetery in Derby.
