Obituary Condolences

BURR, NEWTON HOWARD Newton Howard Burr passed away March 12, 2014. Born August 8, 1921 to Marion Allen Burr and Newton Burr, the oldest of four siblings: Roger, Lois (Thompson), and Mary Jane (Gladwin). Newton graduated Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, Massachusetts, where he later severed as a professor and met his future wife, Charlotte Antila. Newton served during WW II with the rank of Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps as bombardier and navigational instructor. With the death of his father during a flu epidemic, Newton returned to Clinton to oversee the family dairy business. Burr Dairy & Co. provided home delivery of milk and dairy product to residents along the shoreline from Branford to Old Lyme and north to Essex. After the dairy closed in 1964, Newton was a consultant to the dairy and bottling industry throughout North America, working into his mid-eighties. Newton was a past Boy Scout Master, American Legion President, Rotary Club President, co-owner Burr Dairy & Co., active member of Peter’s Woods Land Trust and a long-time resident of Clinton. He was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte, who died in 2009. Newton is survived by his three children, Randall, Christine (Correa), and Howard; five grandchildren, Cheryl (Blenk), Randall, Daisy, Samuel, and Andrew; seven great-grandchildren, Carolyn (Blenk), Katharine, Gavin (Blenk), Randall, Brandon (Blenk), Sadie (Correa), and Anthony (Correa) A graveside memorial at Indian River Cemetery on Saturday, March 22, 11:00 a.m. will be followed by a gathering in the Rose Room at the Clinton Town Hall, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Clinton Land Conservation Trust www.clintonlandtrust.org, Boy Scouts of America http://aplacetogive.scouting.org; and Wounded Warrior Project https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/.
