STONICK, ROBERT A. Robert A. Stonick, 66, of Branford, died Thursday, February 20, 2014 at his home. He was the husband of Kathleen Panico Stonick. Mr. Stonick was born May 19, 1947 in New Haven, son of the late Edward P. and Edna Keay Stonick. He grew up in East Haven and was a well-known local athlete. He was a sports enthusiast, especially football and basketball. He was the captain of the East Haven High School basketball team. He was also a big fan of Penn State University sports teams. He enjoyed visiting wineries. He also loved to visit the tropics—the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Puerto Rico, etc. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a retired Iron Worker, working for Locals 424 and 15 for over 30 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters J. S. Stonick of Branford, and Katherine L. “Kaylee” Stonick of Watsonville, CA; his sister, Ann L. Stonick of Corona del Mar, CA, and his brothers, Edward (Laverne) and James (Darnell) Stonick, both of Branford; his brother-in-law Paul P. (Ginger) Panico of Pataskala, OH; and a niece and a nephew. He leaves his adoring kittens Smokey and Sophie. Funeral from the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford, Friday morning at 9:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Therese Church, Branford, at 10:00. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
