Sheila Abato Obituary

ABATO, SHEILA (GAFFNEY) In Guilford, Tuesday, February 26, 2013, Sheila (Gaffney) Abato longtime resident of Guilford, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. Sheila is the devoted wife of 57 years of Ralph L. Abato. Born in Englewood, NJ, on Dec. 7, 1933, daughter of the late Robert and Mildred Jantzen Gaffney. Beloved mother of Cheryl Augusta and her husband Robert of Madison, Ralph L. Abato, Jr. and his wife Sandra Brown of New Britain and Elizabeth Hunter and her husband James of Hamden. Adoring grandmother of Michael and Andrew Barth, Ryan and Sara Hunter and Kristin Abato. Also survived by several nieces. Predeceased by a brother, Robert Gaffney and a sister, Joan Hulser. Sheila enjoyed her time spent with family, decorating her home and antiquing. Vacations were also a special time she shared with her husband. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St, Guilford on Monday, Mar. 4, at 10am. Burial will follow Mass in St. George Cemetery, Hubbard Rd, Guilford. Friends may call Sunday., Mar. 3, from 4 - 6 pm at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Abato's memory may be made to Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 or to Charlie's Closet, Sachem Hollow, Suite 200, 310 State St, Guilford, CT 06437.
