Virginia Crossley Obituary

CROSSLEY, VIRGINIA Virginia Morss Galpin Crossley, wife of F. R. Irskine Crossley, of North Branford, formerly of Branford, died Saturday at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Mrs. Crossley was born in Marblehead, MA, May 30, 1918, daughter of the late Henry Adams and Edith Sherman Morss. She graduated Vassar College in 1940. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Branford, was a supporter of the Neighborhood Music School and Quinnipiac University. She enjoyed sailing and was the author of the book "The Oystering Industry of New Haven." Besides her husband she is survived by her children, Samuel (Ginny) Galpin of Westford, MA, Henry "Hank" (Lacy) Galpin of Kalispell, Montana, George (Jeanne) Galpin of Edmonds, WA, and Amos (Elise) Galpin of Seattle, WA; stepchildren, Phyllis Mervine of Ukiah, CA and Michael Crossley of Guilford; her twin sister, Eleanor English of New Jersey; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband Samuel A. Galpin. Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1109 Main St., Branford. Burial will be private, and there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Neighborhood Music School, 100 Audubon Street, New Haven, CT 06510.
