Walter J. Coombs Jr.

COOMBS, WALTER J., JR. Walter J. Coombs Jr. of Branford died on Monday, August 12 at the Hospital of St. Raphael. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Constance Dolecki Coombs. He is also survived by his children, William J. Coombs (wife Jennifer) of Branford, Jacqueline Henzler (husband Brian) of Pinellas Park, FL, and Victoria Mangels (husband Bruce) of Guilford. He was the brother of Betty Hackett (husband Jim) of Hamden and the grandfather of Briana Henzler, Jackson Mangels, and Walter J. Coombs. He was predeceased by his son Walter E. Coombs, his infant son Joseph Coombs, and his stepsister Carolyn Mahon. Walter was born in New Haven on May 18, 1934, a son of Walter and Victoria Solecki Coombs. He served in the U.S. Army and was a truck driver for the Teamsters Local 443 for 44 years. His family wishes to thank the staff of Ledgewood Rehabilitation in Branford and also the staff of the Hospital of St. Raphael for all the care they gave to him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10:00 at St. Mary Church in Branford. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
