We will never forget Al and his giving personality that came so naturally. He was also philanthropic. Credit Al with 100k squatters in South Africa being given a boost through 100k 1994 ballot papers from South Africa being donated to them from Afridom.com. These ballots have appreciated from $2.50 to $550.00 over the years thanks to Al helping me bid on them and winning in 1994. I will forever be grateful and remember Al's kind and generous gesture to the end.

Dear Anne and family,
This note falls in the category of better late than never. Michael told me of Al's death and honestly I couldn't comprehend it at the time. Al was so full of life and so full of adventure and so much love for you and the children! Our shared time in South Africa (around 1990 - 1994) was unforgettable and our times together just priceless. I hope we reconnect somehow and to this day I quote Al to the children when I tell them what he said while we were all living and giving birth to our children in South Africa. He would say, "how cool will it be for our children when they are sitting in a bar in Greenwich, CT one day and get to say, I was born in South Africa!" Love & blessings, Anne

My Dearest Al, It is with much sadness that I write this, as I always thought that we would meet up again somewhere, sometime. It will now have to be in heaven. I will always treasure those precious moments we spent together in Nepal and Darjeeling and will never forget the sadness I felt when we spent our last moments together singing “I'm leaving on a jet plane” on the lawns of the Calcutta Airport. But we were both so young and so adventuress and heading in completely different paths to different worlds. You to Hong Kong and I to the Pilbara. We were not meant to be in this life. But I do sometimes wonder “what if I was at home when you visited my folks in Melbourne on your way back to the states”. I only knew the boy – but it sounds like you grew up to be quite a man with a wonderful family. Rest in Peace Dear Al – and I will always remember you every time I hear “Our Song” on the radio. With much Love and Affection, Val xxx

To my darling Al - on your 53 birthday. You are with us always. You remind us that each day we need to be embracing life and all those who touch us. How can we possibly learn to be the incredibly generous and passionate soul that you were. You taught us how amazing life could be if lived to the fullest.
We miss you so much

I'm deeply sad about this news. I met Al in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and became his Spanish tutor. His energy, his vision and kindness were truly inspiring. Al loved life and made you love it too... no matter who early in the morning we started classes and meetings! He was a great and positive influence to anyone lucky to have come across his way. My thoughts and condolences to his family.

My sorrow has only deepened as the shocking news of your sudden death digs and scrapes its way into a mind and heart that wants no part of its tragic pursuit. It just cannot be that I (like your precious family and countless other souls that you touched) must accept that you are gone, and that I must give in, give up, and let you go? Not yet, I say, for there are still hot tears that keep words and whispers at bay, and more agony to be screamed from chambers deep within me, a broken heart still hurts and must be healed. Even then, it will be only to the departure of a mortally wounded body that I submit.
For WE were blood, my brother, but bound up too in the same Spirit that gave us each breath, and bodies. In her bosom our spirits, mingle still, as they always have, in a dance of day and dark, fire and water, earth and sky, silence and sound. Only the wind now marks our way, in another kind of life for sure, but which like this one, was always forever.

What a wonderful, caring and helpful person who opened the door for me to Nelson Mandela and the 1.5m ballot papers I was able to bid on and win through his assistance (along with Eric)

So sorry to hear this very sad news. We had not been in touch in recent years, but I have scores of good memories from our exciting and mostly fun times in Japan in the mid to late 1980s.

I am so sad to hear about this. Although I didn't keep in touch with Al after high school, it sounds as if he he lived a full and adventurous life as a beautiful soul. Seems as if a great spark has been lost. My condolences to all members of his family.

Dear Ann, Mr. Alletzhauser, Eric, Kurt, Amy and Judy,
I am so very sad, needless to say shocked, by this news. Although we lived so far apart I have always considered Al one of my dearest childhood friends. I will always remember that smile and his upbeat approach to life. May your fond memories of him bring you a smile as they do for me. I wish I could be there for his life celebration - what a full life for one so short.
With deep sympathy and prayers,

Dear Anne & all the family - I was shocked and saddened to hear of Al's passing. Al was my longest friend and a great influence in some key decisions in my life. Although he has left us too early, his spirit and legacy endure through his family and friends around the world. Here's to Al...a man of uncommon imagination and quick wit, who boldly went out and left his mark on the world. In his fast-forward life he succeeded first and finished first. The picture above captures the glint in his eye; he was at his best when scheming something great.

To Al's family - I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing. Even though we had not been in touch for many years, it is still sad to lose a member of a community - the Daniel Hand High School class of 1978. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. May you know that Al is at peace. Cherish the memories you have.

Form Argentina I want to express my condolences to his family and friends. I remember Al as the dreamer who brought to this land so far away from the world the ideas, hopes and courage that still today light us. He was a hard worker and as I always called him, a nice crazy man. I will miss him a lot……
