He served as Chief until his retirement in 1984, after which he remained an active member of the Fire Department. From the early 1940's until recently, Andy was a snare drummer for the World Champion North Branford Fife and Drum Corps. As part of the corps, he marched in numerous parades and competed throughout the northeast. His expertise in fire pump repair led to his formation of Amatrudo's Fire Apparatus Repair in 1977. He served as the pump mechanic for the Guilford Fire Department as well as several other departments throughout Connecticut. Following his retirement, he toured the country in his RV, and fell in love with Nokomis, FL, where he settled down with his wife to enjoy "paradise".
