Marable, Rev. Cosbie, Jr. Rev. Marable went home to be with his Lord on May 3rd 2012. He was the loving and devoted husband of 55 years to Deacon Dorothy Marable of Hamden, CT. He was born in Valdosta, GA. 1926. Son of Cosbie and Mary Marable, Sr. Children: Daughter, Linda Yvonne Johnson, H. (Harry), Valdosta, GA., Sons--Cosbie Marable III, Shelton, CT., Christopher Marable and wife Angela, West haven CT., Derrick Marable, New Haven, CT. Grand children, Cosbie IV, Esme, Shayna, Tyree, Chloe, Christopher Jr., CT, Elnora of Atlanta, GA, Darrel of Detroit Mi, and Swazay and Swazet in NC. After serving in the U.S. Navy for two years during the Second World's War. Reverend Marable graduated from Dasher High School in Valdosta, GA In 1947. He began his undergraduate studies as a pre-dental student at Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Ga. and received a BS Degree in Major Chemistry and Minor in Biology in 1951. He furthered his education and received his Master's Degree in Secondary Education, and a Sixth Year Professional Certificate in Secondary School Administration at the University of Bridgeport. After being called to the Gospel Ministry he furthered his education at the Hartford Seminary, receiving a Certificate in Biblical Studies. The Connecticut Institute of Christian Religion, under the Supervision Virginia Union School of Theology. He was Bursar of Conn. Institute of Christian Religion, the instructor of Christian Doctrine, Christian Education and church administration for more than fifteen years. Rev. Marable was employed as the first black science teacher in New Haven Schools. He taught science at Bassett Junior High School. He was assistant principal at Wexler Community School, principal of Lincoln Bassett, Hill Central and Truman Schools. He was granted a Sabbath leave to attend the Dr. James Comer of Yale Medical School Effective School Program at Yale Child Study Center. During his tenure as principal he was acknowledged and respected by his peers as the Prince of Principals. Since joining Community Baptist Church, Rev. Marable has served as Youth Leader, Trustee ministry: assistant treasurer, treasurer, financial secretary, secretary, Co-Chairperson, and Chairperson of the Trustees ministry, Sunday school teacher, Adult Bible Teacher, Deacon, Secretary of Deacons, Chaplain of Chancel Choir, and Director of Christian Education. He was called and ordained to the Gospel Ministry, Rev. Marable served as Associate Minister, and Associate Pastor for Pastoral Care at the time of his death. Rev. Marable served as the coordinator of prison and health care ministries of his church for many years. He was a volunteer chaplain at the Religious Ministries at Yale New Haven Hospital for 15 years. He served as an active member, and elected chairperson several committees of the YNHH Auxiliary Board. Rev. Marable's outreach ministry of services started as a street minister of evangelism, and protesting birth abortions at the New Haven and Bridgeport clinics and providing sandwiches for the needy and gospel tracts proclaiming the good news of the gospel. He was the weekly evangelistic preacher for many years at Aids Interfaith Ministries on Chapel Street for Sister Dr. Elsie Cofield. Rev. Marable proclaimed the gospel to clients at Prisons on the Whalley Ave New Haven, Cheshire and at 8:00 A.M. at Bridgeport Correctional Facilities, and church worship service and preacher on Sunday Mornings at Atrium Plaza Health Center, and Mead Street Health Center before his church started at 11:00 A.M. He was Past Master of Widow's Son Lodge No I PHA, one the organizer and First President of the Past Master's Council of Widow's Son Lodge for 15 years and 33rd Degree Mason, he received his 50th year service pin from Widow's Son Lodge No 1; Charter member of Delta Iota Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Life Membership in the NAACP. He has been a workshop presenter of Effective Schools at National Elementary School Principals Conventions for several years in various cities on the East and West coast and States in between. He served as an Active member of the Connecticut Elementary School Principals and as a representative on the Governor's Task Force to develop the State Mastery Test for Grade 4. He was a workshop presenter and teacher of Christian Doctrine for the Connecticut and National Baptist Deacon's Alliances in various cities in Connecticut and the nation. He has received many Awards, Recognitions from his Church; Masonic, professional affiliates, a State Governor and local Civil Officials and Man of the Year from several Social Groups and he was recently honored by establishing the Rev. Cosbie Marable Scholarship of Delta Iota Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. MARABLE, REV. COSBIE, JR. Cosbie Marable, Jr, of Hamden, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus, May 3rd 2012. He was the husband of Dorothy Marable. Born in Valdosta, GA, January 13, 1926. He was the son of the late Cosbie and Mary Marable of Valdosta, Ga. prior to retiring; he was employed by the New Haven Board of Education for 37 years. He retired as principal of three of the city's largest elementary schools. Rev. Marable was an Associate Pastor of Community Baptist Church. Rev. Marable was a Past Master of Widow's Son's Lodge and 33rd Degree Mason, Member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and Life member of NAACP. He joined the Navy and served as a third class Petty Officer during the Second World War. He loves to cherish his memory his lovely wife Dorothy of 55 years. A viewing will take place Friday, May 11, 2012 at Community Baptist Church, 143 Shelton Avenue, New Haven, CT 06511 from 4-7PM. A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 9AM. Calling hours at the church on Saturday from 8-9AM. Interment will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Service by Howard K.
