DORSEY WHITESTONE Obituary

WHITESTONE, DORSEY Dorsey Whitestone of North Branford died at his home at Evergreen Woods on Tuesday, June 3rd. He was the husband of Patricia Feldman Whitestone of North Branford, to whom he was married for 65 years. He was the father of Jeffrey Whitestone of Boston, Todd Whitestone of New York City (and his wife Evamarie, son Lucas and daughter Erika), Kim Whitestone Shultz of Carbondale, Colorado (and her husband Timothy and sons Zachary and Tyler), and Randall Whitestone of Scarsdale, New York (and his wife Lisa, daughter Emma and son Trevor). He was the brother of Bruce Whitestone of Breslau, Ontario, Canada, and the brother-in-law of Cynthia Feldman of Branford. Mr. Whitestone was born in NYC on June 25, 1918, a son of Dorsey and Elvera Whitestone. He was a graduate of Horace Mann School and Yale University, Class of 1939, where he wrote humorous verse, articles and reviews of pre-Broadway shows for the YALE RECORD. He later served as Class of 1939 Treasurer. Ineligible for military service during World War II, he worked in the planning and production of military aircraft for Curtiss-Wright. He spent more than 50 years in the family point-of-purchase advertising firm, Dorsey Display Corporation, many as President. He resided in Branford and North Branford for the past 25 years, after having lived in Chappaqua, New York for the previous 33. While in Chappaqua, he was proud to serve as a deacon of the First Congregational Church, Town Club President, and also as President of the Library Board of Trustees. Under his leadership, the town acquired the site and built a new library to meet the expanded needs of the community. Once in the New Haven area, he served as a board member of: 60th Reunion-Yale Class of 1939; English Speaking Union-New Haven Chapter; Connecticut Academy of Arts and Sciences; Yale Friends of Music and the Yale Basketball Association. He was an Associate Fellow of Davenport College at Yale. In addition to these formal associations, Mr. Whitestone was passionate about his family, the musical theatre, Yale and its athletics. Burial will be private. Memorial services will be held at a later date. The W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St. Branford is in care of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Yale Historical Sound Recordings Collection, Gilmore Music Library, 120 Wall Street, New Haven, CT 06511. See online memorial @ www.wsclancy.com.
