Obituary Condolences

TENNEY, DR. JAMES HUGH Dr. James Hugh Tenney died on March 12, 2012 from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. He was born in 1944 in New York City to parents Alvan Howard Tenney and Elizabeth (Betty) Mohr Tenney and brought up in Briarcliff Manor, New York. He graduated from Harvard College cum laude, where he was the manager of the Harvard Glee Club and concentrated in German Literature. He attended Harvard Medical School, developing an interest in infectious diseases. Following his graduation from medical school in 1970, he interned at Boston City Hospital and became an Epidemiological Intelligence Officer at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia. After completing fellowships in infectious diseases (University of Colorado) and microbiology (Mayo Clinic), Dr. Tenney became the epidemiologist at University of Maryland Hospital and taught at the University of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore where he published many articles on hospital-acquired infections. In 1987 Dr. Tenney moved his family to Connecticut where he took a position with Bristol Myers Squibb. In his final job, Dr. Tenney returned to his first love, patient care, and joined the Yale Nursing Home Practice. In 2007 Dr. Tenney was admitted to the Alzheimer's Resource Center in Southington, Connecticut where he was loved by the staff for his sweet demeanor and ready laugh. Dr. Tenney is survived by his wife Deborah, his sister Janet, his three children, Michael Tenney, Elizabeth Tenney O'Neill, and Alison Tenney Luff, and two grandchildren: Paloma Grace Luff and Indigo James Forrester O'Neill. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 704 Whitney Avenue in New Haven on Saturday, March 17th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the music program at the Alzheimer's Resource Center, 1261 South Main Street, Plantsville, CT 06479. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, New Haven.
