Kathryn Pauline Winkworth Obituary
WINKWORTH, KATHRYN PAULINE July 19, 1918 - May 5, 2012 "When lilacs last in the dooryard bloomed..." w. whitman. Kathryn Pauline Winkworth passed away on Saturday morning, 5 May 2012, at the Hospice of the Fisher Home in North Amherst, MA. She was in the 94th year of life, sharp as a tack until the very end. Kathryn was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1918, married Jack William Winkworth in 1942, relocated to Port Washington, NY on Long Island in 1962, and settled in Branford, CT in January 1974. Watching birds especially cardinals, bowling on the computer, and eating the occasional piece of chocolate were special joys although nothing gave greater pleasure to her than skunking her five children and ten grandchildren in cribbage. A resident of Branford CT since 1973,"M.O." and her husband Jack were regular volunteers at the Connecticut Hospice for over twenty five years; their work and the friendships they made were very special to the two of them. She maintained an encyclopedic memory of the comings and goings of her children and their families. Her work with her special helper St. Joseph and her prayer list were credited with finding jobs, graduate school acceptances, and improved health for those fortunate enough to be included. May, the month of her leaving, remained a favorite time of the year for her. Her two oldest children were born in the month and it was the time of lilacs. She always expressed a wish to die when the lilacs were in bloom. Requiescat in pace.
