Maureen Cook Obituary
COOK, MAUREEN E. (COLES) Maureen E. (Coles) Cook, 89, of Chester passed away peacefully Monday December 23, 2013 with her family by her side.She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years Clarence Cook, grandson Robin Cook, 14 siblings, three nieces and six nephews. She is survived by eight children. Avril Bacon of East Lyme, Robin Cook of Westbrook, Wendy Jacobs of Clinton, Janet Sweeney and husband Tom of Westbrook, William Cook of Clinton, Pamela Cavanaugh of Old Saybrook, Mary Reilly and husband John of Clinton, and David Cook of Old Saybrook; 24 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Maureen was born to Ernest Coles and Minnie Finn April 1, 1924 in Ponty Pool, South Wales where she met her American World War II soldier. They were later married in England at Stratford-upon-Avon in 1944. She left for America aboard the “Queen Mary” while her husband continued to serve. They settled on the Connecticut shore where she devoted her life to loving and caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren. Maureen “Nan” is the last of a Dynasty, one of which we who are left are proud to be a part. All our love “Queen Mum”, you will be dearly missed. Special thanks to Colleen and the exceptional quality of care by the entire Aaron Manor and Hospice Staff. A memorial service will be held on Thursday January 2, 2014 at 11am at Emmanual Baptist Church, 195 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. Inurnment will follow in Beaver Brook Cemetery, Clinton.
