ZALE, PEARL S. Pearl S. Zale, widow of Dr. Charles Zale, died Sunday February 10 from complications of Alzheimer's. She was 90. Born in the Bronx, NY, she earned an RN degree at Brooklyn Jewish Hospital and a BA from NYU. She practiced nursing in CA, FL and in her husband's Hamden medical practice. Pearl never sat still. She raised Shih Tzus and over the years rescued many injured wild animals and gave homes to sheep, pigs, and peacocks. A lifetime learner, finished the Sunday Times crossword in ink, played tennis and golf, gardened, and needle pointed. Playing folk guitar, singing ballads, enjoying museums, plays, and opera were only some of her interests. The Yale Epidemiology Department hired her as an Interviewer, and she retired in 2000. Her sense of humor endeared her to everyone. She endured her illness with grace and dignity, which is emblematic of how she lived her life. She leaves her daughters, Deborah and Julie, plus many relatives and friends. A private memorial will be held in the spring.
