Salvatore Dante Bernardi

1919 - 2013

Bernardi, Salvatore Dante Salvatore Dante Bernardi, age 94, died peacefully at home on Sunday, August 11, 2013, surrounded by his family. Sal is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen Ann Pokoszek Bernardi; daughters Helen (Fred) Southerton of Escondido, CA and Elizabeth Bernardi of Sunnyvale, CA; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Baldissarre and Angela; brothers Frank, Thomas, and Albert. Born in Roccabernarda, Italy, the family later immigrated to New Haven, CT where Sal graduated from Yale University. He served his country in WWII, married, received his PhD in mathematics, had two children, and enjoyed a long career in teaching. After his retirement from New York University in 1986, Sal and Helen joined their children in California, where he enjoyed the pleasant California weather, their children, and their good neighbors. Memorial service Aug. 16, 2013 at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, San Diego, Ca. Interment of ashes at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, Ca.
