Armitage, Susan Mary Susan M. Armitage, age 44, a long time Hamden resident, passed away Friday, July 27, 2012 after a long illness. Sue was born in New Haven to William & Jean (Lauria) Smith on August 14, 1967. She was a 1985 graduate of Eli Whitney, a member of the CT Special Olympics Hall of Fame, and worked for Anthem BC/BS for 16 yrs. Most importantly, Sue volunteered with the Special Olympics for over 25 yrs, serving as the local coordinator for the Hamden/New Haven Chapter for 10 years. Sue was a fighter, a caregiver, enthusiastic & a true champion for the Hamden/New Haven SOCT, believing in fighting the barriers, not the disabilities. Besides her parents, Sue is survived by her loving husband; William Armitage of Hamden, grandmother, Sue Rapuano of New Haven, & uncle, Leonard Rapuano of Florida. The wake will be Tuesday, July 31st, 5-8pm at the Hamden Memorial Funeral Home, 1300 Dixwell Ave., Hamden CT. The service will be held Wed., Aug 1 at 11am. in Blessed Sacrament Church.
