I only had the opportunity to meet him once, but that once was enough to recognize his lovely spirit and warm heart. Ficre, Elizabeth, and the boys lived next door to my sister Ann in New Haven, CT. Ann cherished them all.

Ficremariam brought many welcome greetings for Anton when we first arrived to percussion in New Haven. Enthusiasm, kindness and encouragement. Constant celebration and just plain ole enjoyment of the moment. With all of this, there was always an awareness of a bond and inspiration with his children...Simon, who we saw on location, and Solomon, whom both he spoke of with exclamation. We send wishes for strength and peace. Marta and Anton (NMS)

Dear Ficre's family

I am deeply saddened to hear this sad news. I knew Ficre when he was actively involved in volunteering his time for famine relief efforts in Eritrea in the 1980ies. He was dedicated and hard working. I never forget him although I lost touch with him. I am deeply sorry to hear this sad news and my condolence to his family.

Dear Elizabeth, Solo and Simon:
Thinking of you all and remembering Ficre's big heart and how he could laugh us all into a new state of mind. May the sound of that laughter stay with you always.

Elizabeth:
I am shocked at this terrible news. He was so so lively. I thought we had some potential special affinity, but we put off further meetings and now they will not happen. There is a lesson there.

Marjorie and I are available for any, I mean any, way that we can help you and boys deal with this. I wish I had met them, but can try to stand in for throwing a baseball around the yard.

This is a terrible sudden loss, for you and the boys most of all, but also for those of us around who felt his special glow.

Warmly
