Verna GILHULY Obituary
GILHULY, VERNA C. Verna Cameron Gilhuly, 89, of West Haven, wife of the late Donald Gilhuly, passed away February 20, 2014 at Yale New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael Campus. She was born in West Haven daughter of the late Cecil and Nellie Cocoran Cameron. She worked for the Southern New England Telephone Company for many years until her retirement. She was an active daily Communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church, a member of the Telephone Company Pioneers and a member of the West Haven Irish American Club. In her youth she enjoyed spending her summers at the Savin Rock Amusement Park. She loved gambling at the Mohegan Sun Casino and Bingo at the Italian American Club. She spent her winters at the Seahorse Mobile Home Park in St. Petersburg, Florida. She will always be remembered for being young at heart. She is survived by her nephews and nieces, Milton Gavigan (Karen) of Seymour, Patricia Thomas of Hamden, Marilyn Nairn (Richard) of West Haven, Harold Burns (Gail) of West Haven, Kathy Hafty (Bruce) of Somerset, NJ, Maryellen Crump (Randy) of Broken Arrow, OK, Lisa Centore (Carlo) of West Haven, Jackie Gavigan of West Haven; and her lifelong friend, Jean Forbes. She was predeceased by her sisters, Barbara Gavigan, Ellen Burns and Mildred Smith (the Cameron Girls); and her niece Barbara Bureau. Her funeral will be from Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven at 10:30 am on Wednesday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Victory Church. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call from 9:00 am – 10:30 am prior to her funeral Mass.
