RAIANO, ALPHONSE A. Alphonse A. Raiano, 70, of East Haven, formerly of Hamden, died peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. He was the son of the late Anthony and Jane Zane Raiano. He was a graduate of the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Services in New York City, NY and was the owner and director of the Raiano Meadowbrook Funeral Home in Hamden. He was a member of the Governor’s Foot Guard and the Knights of Columbus and participated in many charitable organizations throughout his life. He is survived by two sisters, Grace R. Poole and her husband George of Guilford, and Elaine R. Ballerini and her husband David of Bethany; and his partner, Nancy Zeppegno-Haddad of Derby. He is also survived by two nieces, Dr. Barbara Jane Banning and her husband Robert of Guilford, and Jane E. Ballerini, Esq. of Bethany; two nephews, Dr. James G. Poole and his wife Linda of Vermont and Anthony D. Ballerini of Bethany; five great-nieces and -nephews, Gracie and Maxwell Banning and Lucy, Conrad and Oliver Poole; and many friends from the Ascot Club of Shelton. He enjoyed boating, fishing and perpetual “happy hours” with his family and friends on Long Island Sound. “Don’t worry, be happy” was the soundtrack on those sandy shores. For those who knew and loved Alphonse, they knew there are no words big enough to encompass the life and love of this incredible man. Funeral from MARESCA & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Chapel St., Friday at 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael’s Church at 10:00 a.m. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. To honor the youthful spirit of Alphonse, we ask that in lieu of flowers, the family would kindly ask that you make donations to Melissa Jones School PTO Playground Fund, 169 Ledge Hill Rd., Guilford, CT 06437.
