MELILLO, ALBERT “SHINEY” Albert “Shiney” Melillo, 85, of North Haven, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Montowese Health and Rehab Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hamden on July 17, 1928; son of the late Ferdinando and Concetta Merola Melillo. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army, having received the Purple Heart for his courageous service during the Korean War. He had worked as an operating engineer for Fusco Corporation for 20 years, and later for his nephew Fred Melillo at Elite Transport until his retirement. He was a member of the Prihillian Club of North Haven and the Operating Engineers Local #478. Father of Wendy (Richard) Melillo Farrill and Gary Melillo. Grandfather of Brett Melillo and Alysia Melillo and Grant and Bryson Farrill. Brother of William Melillo, Robert Melillo; and the late Dominic Melillo, Angelo “Miles” Melillo, George Melillo, Mary Ferrari, Carmel Gandolfi, Frederick Melillo and Andrew Melillo Sr. Also survived by his former wife, Josephine Chappelle, and many nieces and nephews. His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Monday morning at 9:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
