Richard Donle Obituary
DONLE, RICHARD K. Richard “Dick” King Donle, 80, of Northford, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the beloved husband of Dolores (Lampo) Donle. Born October 30, 1933, in Meriden, he was the youngest of six, survived by only Merriam (Donle) Jensen. He is also survived his sons Mark of Syracuse, NY, Rick of Northford, and David and his wife Laura of North Haven; as well as five grandchildren: Laura and Adam Donle of Syracuse, and Austin, Jackson and Colton Donle of North Haven. Dick’s bigger than life personality enjoyed the spotlight. He would tell his stories to anyone that would listen. Orphaned at a young age, he took care of himself but loved being around others. He was in sales all his life and delivered newspapers to stay busy. He built his empire in the tire business with Donle Tire in the 1970’s. His work ethic and chivalrous ways served as an example to all. Self-educated, he mastered many skills: he could “build a house from the ground up,” he could “sell snow to the Eskimos” as well as cook a gourmet meal. Besides his family, he enjoyed being a Mason and watching sports (especially the Cowboys, UCONN and the Red Sox). Dick’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. Funeral services including a Masonic service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Christ Church Anglican, 965 West Main St., Branford, CT 06405. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
