Obituary Condolences

HOZER, MICHAEL Hozer, Michael, 67, born July 20, 1946, in New Haven, CT, died April 22, 2014, at CT Hospice in Branford. He was a longtime resident of Guilford, CT. He was the son of the late Rose (Altschuler) and Joseph Hozer and the beloved husband and best friend of 42 years of Risa (Opperman) Hozer. Michael is survived by his loving children, Amy Hozer (Mark Weber) of Brooklyn, NY and Jaymee Somberg (Max) of Gulf Breeze, FL. He also leaves his adored grandchildren, Emma and Alex Somberg. He leaves his devoted sister, Roberta (Howard) Lurie of New Haven, and brother, Lewis (Joyce ) Hozer of Naugatuck, as well as many nieces and nephews. Michael graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven and attended Quinnipiac University and the CT School of Electronics. Michael served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era receiving the Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service. He spent most of his career as a salesman in the floor covering industry, enjoying the camaraderie and friendship of all his clients. He volunteered as a Big Brother in New Haven and was a mentor in the Guilford School System for many years. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Michael volunteered as his daughter’s soccer coach and attended many fencing meets of Guilford High School. Michael grew up loving sports, his dogs, Simca, Max and Tequilla, and his loving family. Funeral Services at the Robert E. Shure Funeral Home in New Haven Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 11:00am and interment at Congregation Sinai Memorial Park, 3 Farwell St., West Haven. Contributions may be made to The American Cancer Association. Period of morning will be observed at his residence, 448 Peddlers Rd., Guilford, CT directly after the funeral and Friday, April 25, 2014 from 3pm to 7pm.
