NELSON, FREDERICK GEORGE Wednesday, April 23, 2014, Frederick George Nelson, native of the New Haven area for 91 years, born April 5, 1923, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Mary (Gentile) Nelson, devoted children, Bro. Glenn Mary Joseph Nelson, OFS (New Haven) and Jeanne M. (Larry) Hartley (Stratford, CT) and his treasured grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeffrey and Craig Hartley. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Helga (Hansen) Nelson, and four siblings, Mabel, Robert, Walter, Agnes. He was a veteran of WW11 Army Air Force. Fred touched many lives in the New Haven Area and around the country during his fifty plus year career as a vendor at numerous Super Bowls, World Series, Papal visits, historical events and parades in all the local CT communities and beyond. He shared his joy and his own unique personality with everyone he encountered. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him for his selfless giving, sense of humor, uncanny wit, remarkable patience, the perpetuation of his Swedish Heritage and his encyclopedic knowledge of all sports. The family is deeply grateful to the entire Staff of the Yale -New Haven Hospital St Raphael Campus for their professional and compassionate care. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be celebrated 10:00 AM Monday, April 28, 2014 in St. Mary’s Church, 5 Hillhouse Ave. New Haven CT. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations to Clelian Adult Day Center, 261 Benham Street, Hamden, CT 06514 (Ministry of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus) or to a Veteran’s Charity of one’s choice.
