Anthony Caponera Obituary
CAPONERA, ANTHONY OLIVER Anthony Oliver Caponera, age 87, of West Haven, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2014, at St. Raphael Hospital. He was the husband of Lucille Celotto Caponera; they were married 65 years. Anthony was born in New Haven, CT on September 21,1926; son of the late Battista and Oliver Caponera; brother of the late Mary Petrelli, Anna Rapuano, Joseph and Biagio Orsini. Anthony grew up in the old neighborhood of Hill St. in New Haven and took great pride in its history. After graduating from Commercial High School, he served in the United States Navy aboard a submarine chaser. After 40 years of employment, he retired from Federal Paper Board Co. He was a member of the Prihillian Club of North Haven, Knights of Columbus and the Saint Catello Society. He was the father of Lyn (Don Becker) Caponera, Lisa (Sal) Chiappetta, the late Oliver A. Caponera and daughter-in-law Noreen (Keane) Caponera. He is also survived by three grandchildren who he dearly loved: Francesca Becker, Kathryn Caponera and Anthony Caponera. Visitation will take place Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00PM at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green in West Haven. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home Monday afternoon at 12:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00PM in St. John Vianney Church. Interment, with military honors, will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
