Eleanor Thomas DeGrand Obituary
DEGRAND, ELEANOR THOMAS Eleanor Thomas DeGrand passed away peacefully at her home on May 21st at the age of 80. She was the daughter of the late Irving and Louise Thomas, wife of the late Martin Nicholas DeGrand and a lifelong resident of West Haven.She leaves behind her children and their spouses, Susan and Francis X. Conlon, John and Gail DeGrand, Arlene Painter, Thomas and Patricia DeGrand and Joan Gallagi. Eleanor will be missed by her grandchildren and their spouses, Brian Conlon, Kathleen and Ryan Van Wilgen, Steven and Robert DeGrand, Michael and Megan DeGrand, Ryan and Sean Painter, Austin and Tyler Gallagi, and Jennifer DeGrand. Eleanor served as Parks and Recreation Commissioner in West Haven for several years and was involved in the founding of the Savin Rock Museum. John DeGrand and Son Inc. was founded in 1928. From 1995 until 2009, Eleanor served as its president. She also was the past owner of Mini Max Space LLC and Whistle Stop LLC. Eleanor was a very active member of the West Haven Veterans War Museum in West Haven and, recently, had knitted blankets for veterans of the VA Hospital. In the past year, she has knitted and donated many blankets. All funeral arrangements are private and in care of the West Haven Funeral Home at the green.
