Obituary Condolences

SIMONSEN, HANS CHRISTIAN Hans Christian Simonsen, of North Branford and Branford, passed away on June 7, 2014. He was born August 16, 1929 in Hesselager, Denmark. Chris immigrated to the United States in 1962 with his wife, Bente. He worked for Knudsen’s Dairy, and later Upjohn in North Haven. Chris volunteered at the North Guilford Congregational Church for the Soup Kitchen and was a Volunteer for the Income Tax Association (VITA) at the Atwater Public Library in North Branford. He was an active member of the Danish Brotherhood in America for many years, where he served as President for the New Haven Lodge, and later served as President of the Brotherhood’s New England Region. Chris loved to work in the garden, and late in his life enjoyed working at Dudley Farms Community Garden in Guilford, Connecticut. He leaves behind four children; Joan Stone of Meriden, Lasse Simonsen, (Denise) of North Branford, John Simonsen, (Laurie) of Avon, and Christina Faulkner, (Andrew) of Zionsville, Indiana. He also leaves ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and a sister, Grethe Annelise Hansen of Denmark. He was predeceased by his brothers, Knud Simonsen and Valdemar Andersen, and his former wife, Bente Simonsen. Chris was also predeceased by his companion of many years, Katherine Gunneson. Friends may call Monday, July 7, 2014 from 6 – 7:30 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, with a memorial service at 7:30 pm.
