Sister Bridget Esposito ASCJ Obituary
ESPOSITO, SR. BRIDGET, ASCJ Sr. Bridget Esposito, ASCJ of Hamden died peacefully July 31, 2014 at Sacred Heart Manor. She was born in New Haven July 7, 1918 to the late Gaetano and Concetta Marino Esposito. She entered the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in New Haven on October 15, 1938, professed her first vows in New Haven on August 24, 1941 and her perpetual vows on August 24, 1946. During 61 of her 74 years of active ministry, Sr. Bridget helped shape the lives of countless young children as she taught in Catholic grade schools in Connecticut (St. Michael School, New Haven), Illinois, Missouri, New York, and Pennsylvania. With her bright smile welcoming everyone, Sr. Bridget taught about the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus by her humble, generous, caring manner. Sr. Bridget was among a pioneer group of Apostles who cared for the sick and retired sisters at Mount Sacred Heart and Sacred Heart Manor. Sr. Bridget continued to share that love of the Sacred Heart when she retired to Sacred Heart Manor in 2003 where she remained active assisting others in need, as well as participating in the various activities at the Clelian Adult Day Center. She was known for her creative bulletin boards and decorations for various occasions and celebrations. Sr. Bridget received a bachelor’s degree in English from Fordham University, Bronx, NY. She also received a Certificate in Montessori Education from the Saint Nicholas Training Centre, London, England. During her years as an Apostle Adorer at Sacred Heart Manor, Sr. Bridget was faithful in her apostolate of praying for her family, her Sister Apostles and all those who entrusted themselves to her prayers. She also was very generous in sharing all that she had. Sr. Bridget had a special dedication to praying for vocations to the congregation and for the sisters in formation. Predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Salvatore and Dominic, she is survived by her sister, Mary Ann, and brother, Anthony, loving nieces, nephews and cousins and Sister Apostles, her religious family. Relatives and friends may call Sunday from 4-7pm at Sacred Heart Manor 261 Benham St. Hamden and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10am in the Manor Chapel. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Manor 261 Benham St. Hamden, CT 06514-2081. Sign Sr. Bridget’s guest book online at www.iovanne.com.
