Obituary Condolences

SMITH, RICHARD J. JR. North Branford - Richard J. Smith, Jr., 75, of Turkey Hill Rd., Chester, where he resided with his loving daughter Mary and her family Ronald, Carly and Nicholas, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2010, at the MidState Medical Center, Meriden. Born on May 6, 1935, in New Haven to the late Richard J., Sr. and Mary Miller Smith, Richard graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1953 and from Fordham University in 1957. Richard received his Juris Doctorate from the University Of Connecticut School of Law and was a private practice attorney his entire career. He married his late wife, former State Senator Regina Rusnak Smith, and together raised their seven children in Northford. Richard was a devoted and caring father who gave his time and professional assistance to many charitable and civic organizations. He served on the North Branford Town Board of Selectman. Richard is survived by children, Attorney Christopher J. Smith and his wife Emily, Richard J. Smith, III and his wife Attorney Laura Murphy, Susan M. Smith, Sharon S. Harris and her husband William, Sally Lapadula and her husband Patrick, Audrey Smith and Mary Carta and her husband Ronald, as well as 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and his brother Kevin Smith. Along with his wife, he was predeceased by sisters Maureen Sewick and Kate Smith. Richard's processional will form at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:30AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at St. Monica's Church.
