James Plunkett Obituary
PLUNKETT, JAMES A. In Yale New Haven Hospital, Friday, May 20, 2011, James A. Plunkett, long time resident of Guilford. Loving husband of 59 years of the late Ann Virginia Shea Plunkett. James was born in Derby, CT on May 9, 1927, son of the late Andrew and Agnes Sullivan Plunkett. Father of James W. Plunkett and his wife Patricia of Guilford, Dr. Timothy J. Plunkett of Southport, William F. Plunkett of Madison and Elizabeth Ann (Betsey) Plunkett of Stony Creek, Branford. Also survived by a grandson, James Timothy Plunkett. Predeceased by a brother Thomas Plunkett. Mr. Plunkett is a graduate of St. Mary's High school and received his Bachelors degree from Villanova University in 1949. He served in his country in the U.S. Navy, and was a long time communicant of St. George's Parish where he was a past president of the Legion of Mary. He had a lifelong career in the insurance industry, until his retirement from Allstate in 1993, after which he was a consultant for Delaney and Triplett Law Firm. If he wasn't on the golf course, he was tending to his garden or planning the next family outing. He loved his children, proud of their accomplishments. His greatest joy was celebrating life with his family and friends. His positive outlook sustained him until the end where his family was by his side. His grace, dignity and infectious smile will be missed by all who knew him. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St, Guilford on Wednesday, May 25, at 10am. Burial will follow in Alder Brook Cemetery, Boston St, Guilford. Friends may call Tuesday, May 24 from 5 - 8 pm at the Guilford Funeral home, 115 Church St, Guilford. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Mr. Plunkett with a memorial contribution are asked to make donations to Our Lady of Grace Monastery, 11 Race Hill Rd, Guilford, CT 06437.
