George Haven Welker Sr. Obituary
WELKER, GEORGE HAVEN, SR. George Haven Welker, Sr., 78, of Bethany, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011, peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the adoring husband of Barbara A. Walter Welker. Mr. Welker was born in New Haven on February 13, 1933; son of the late Wymann V. and Mary Arbuckle Welker. He graduated from Hamden High School, Cheshire Academy and Purdue University where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Welker had worked as an Automotive/Mechanical Engineer for the SNET Company for many years until his retirement and had served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Beacon Falls Congregational Church (not UCC); was a former Trustee for the Bethany Congregational Church for many years; member of the Society of Motor Vehicle Engineers; member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Purdue University; was a master woodworking craftsman; loved family and nature, and was a lifetime member of the NRA. Mr. Welker supported the Boys Scouts of America and represented the church for the same. Loving father of George Haven Welker III, Eric Frank Wymann Welker of Bethany, Babette Welker Lasto and her husband W. Brett Welker. Loving grandfather of Christina, Jessica and Justin Lasto, Anjolina and Alexandra Welker, Carlie and Gretchen Welker. Family and friends are invited to go directly to the Beacon Falls Congregational Church on Wednesday morning at 10:00 to attend a funeral service and are also invited to attend the committal services immediately following in the Bethany Congregational Church Burial Grounds. The visiting hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Beacon Falls Congregational Church, 69 Wolfe Ave., Beacon Falls, CT 06403. www.northhavenfuneral.com
