TOMSKY, BARBARA (KASDEN) Barbara Kasden Tomsky of New Haven, CT and Pompano Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 15, 2012. Daughter of the late Harry and Evelyn Kasden of Ansonia. Barbara was the devoted wife for 63 years to Harry Tomsky who predeceased her in 2010. She was the beloved mother of Margery and Peter Verlezza, John and Debra Tomsky, and Betsy and Joseph Ferraro; cherished grandmother of Eric and Lisa Strom, Holly and Jay Ashby, Michael and Rachel Tomsky, Rebecca Tomsky, Jessica and Scott Udell, Matthew Ferraro, Victoria Verlezza and George Verlezza; and adored great-grandmother of Austin and Mara Kasden Ashby, Sarah Strom and Adam Harry Tomsky. She was also survived by her dear sisters, Maxine Greenberg and Nancy and Jack Talsky, many adoring nieces, nephews, life-long friends and the extended Kasden family. She was born in Ansonia, CT. on March 6, 1927 and attended the Prospect School and Boston University. After raising her family, she began a career in retail, first by opening The Gift Box and later co-founding the gift shop at Jewish Home for the Aged in New Haven. She was recognized by the Auxiliary of the Jewish Home for her efforts. Barbara was an avid golfer and a member of the Woodbridge Country Club, where she served on the Board of Governors. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of Camp Laurelwood, a New Haven Jewish Community Center Camp. She will be remembered as a bright, stylish woman who loved a good party and was always ready for a card game or shopping spree. The Funeral will be held at the Robert E. Shure Funeral Home, 543 George St., New Haven, CT. on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 10:30 am. with interment services to follow in the Beth Israel Cemetery, Derby/Milford Rd, Orange. A period of mourning will be observed at 6:30 pm each evening beginning at the home of Margery and Peter Verlezza, 611 Popes Island Rd., Milford, CT 06461 on Monday evening: at the home of John and Debra Tomsky, 2 South Lake Dr., Stamford, CT 06903 on Tuesday evening and at the home of Betsy and Joseph Ferraro, 4 Knoll Rd., Sands Point, NY 11050 on Wednesday evening.
