David Filip Domizi III Obituary
DOMIZI, DAVID FILIP, III David Filip Domizi III of Guilford, CT, Cambridge, MD and Athens, GA died on November 20, 2012. David was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1936. As a teenager, he set national records with hand gliders he designed, and built the model CL Navy Carrier Guardian which won the Nationals in 1953 and again in 1954. His model is now in the National Model Aviation Museum. He graduated from Rocky River High School in 1954, received his BME from Cornell University in 1959, and then served in the US Navy until 1964 and the USN Reserves, retiring as LT in 1966. He founded Dyno Corp. to prepare sports cars for racing. These cars won at least 4 National SCCA Championships, and he personally set a class lap speed record at the Old Watkins Glen Race Course. He later founded Lasercut, Inc. to design and build high-powered laser cutting systems, placing more than 130 systems around the world before his retirement. Lasercut was first in the US to cut 1 inch steel with a laser. A visionary designer and creator, he also built a boat, a house and a race car, and designed a mechanical seaweed harvester for his wife's company that helped to protect the resource. He loved to play the piano and duplicate bridge (Life Master). David is survived by his wife, Susan, his sons Scott and David, David's wife Denise, and his beloved grandchildren, Roxanne and Lucille. There will be a gathering of family and friends on Dec. 8. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Guilford Interfaith Ministries (www.gimct.org) or the SladeChild Foundation (www.sladechild.org).
