Shepard Cohen Obituary
COHEN, DR. SHEPARD N., DDS Dr. Shepard N. Cohen, DDS of Hamden passed away on Tuesday, April 9 after a brief illness. He was 92. He is survived by two sons, Stuart and his wife Elaine (Sjogren) of Milford and Steven and his wife Jacquelyn (Cyphers) of Wallingford. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Samuel, Sarah, Daniel and Wendy, 3 great-grandchildren, Isabella, Frank and Christian, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dr. Cohen was born on December 6, 1920, to Samuel and Anna Cohen of New Haven. He married Leona Frances Spivak of New Haven on July 5, 1948, and they spent 54 happy years together until her death in 2003. He was also predeceased by his 5 brothers, Avrem, Edward, Sidney, Morton and Charles. Dr. Cohen graduated from Hillhouse High School in 1939, and was captain of the baseball and soccer teams. He then attended Franklin and Marshall College and graduated from Temple Dental School in 1945. Following his service in World War II, he practiced dentistry in New Haven under the tutelage of Dr. Morton Loeb and continued on his own for many years, serving with the Connecticut State Dental Association, the Morton Loeb Clinic and the Jewish Home for the Aged. He was a 50 year member of Cosmopolitan Lodge #125. He was an avid golfer and achieved every golfer's dream on July 10, 1988 with a hole in one at the course at Oak Lane Country Club, where he was a member for many years. He was also a loyal fan of the New York Yankees and football Giants, and was a regular attendee at Yale football games. Friends and family are invited to a graveside service on Thursday, April 11 (TODAY), at 10:30 am at theMishkan Israel Cemetery, Jewell St., New Haven.
