Berube, Laura Burnham Laura Burnham Berube, 93, passed away on April 5, 2013 at Saint Lucie Medical Center in Port St. Lucie, Florida. She was born on June 4, 1919 in New Haven, Connecticut to David and Edith Mae (Burnham) Blevins. Laura grew up in New Haven and graduated from James Hillhouse High School in New Haven in 1938. She was a member of the Dwight Place Congregational Church / Edgewood Congregational Church (UCC) of New Haven. Laura was a direct descendant of Thomas Burnham (1617-1688), the Emigrant, who was among the early settlers at Hartford, Connecticut. Born in England, he was a lawyer and landowner, when he arrived in the American Colonies in 1637. He was among the earliest Puritan settlers in Connecticut, living in Podunk and finally settling in Hartford. He purchased most of the land covered by the current towns of South Windsor, Connecticut and East Hartford, Connecticut. She married Harrison George Berube in 1941 in New Haven and lived in Hamden, Connecticut after Harrison's honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1945. In 1965, they moved to North Haven, Connecticut where they lived for almost 20 years. They were happily married for 52 years. After Harrison's death in 1994, Laura permanently moved to their winter home in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Laura was an active member of the Hamden Women's Club and the New Haven Emblem Club (B.P.O.E. #25). She also volunteered for many years collecting for the American Cancer Society as well as serving as Hamden's Town Chairman. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Edith Mae and David Blevins, her stepmother, Marjorie Watrous Blevins, her husband, Harrison George Berube, her son, Kurt Harrison Berube, her sister, Elsie Jean Luppi, and her sister-in-law, Barbara Elizabeth Blevins. Laura is survived by her son, Marshall David (Diane) Berube of Tampa, Florida; her brother Marshall Burnham Blevins of Milford, Connecticut and her brother-in-law Howard Louis Luppi; her grandchildren Meredith Brooke (Michael) Stephani, and Ryan Harrison (Lisa) Berube; her great-grandchildren Jack Harrison Berube, Ella Ann Berube, Luke William Stephani; her niece Mary-Jean Aimi; her nephews John David Blevins and David Howard Luppi; and other relatives. A visitation will be held at Hawley Lincoln Memorial, 493 Whitney Avenue, New Haven on Sunday, April 14, 2013 between 3-5 pm. The family will be greeting friends and relatives at that time. A memorial service will be held at the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, 493 Whitney Avenue, New Haven on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 10 am. Burial will follow at Beaverdale Memorial Park Cemetery.
