Richard Williams Obituary

WILLIAMS, RICHARD NORMAN FORMER ROWAYTON, CT RESIDENT AND OLIN CHEMICAL EXECUTIVE Richard "Dick" Williams, aged 89, died in Branford, CT, Sunday, April 7th 2013. He had resided in the Rowayton Beach Association for nearly 58 years. Dick was born in Schenectady, N.Y. on May 6th, 1923. He received a Chemical Engineering Degree from Yale University in 1944. Thereafter he served with the Airborne Engineers in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He married Marian Andrew in 1947 in Stamford, CT. After the war, he was employed by various Chemical Companies including Merck, Squibb, ant ultimately Olin. In 1965 he was the Vice President of Olin's Chemical Division. He was also the Director of the Public Affairs council of Washington D.C. He retired in 1988, as Corp. Vice President, Human Resources and Administration of Olin. Dick's many passions included boating, fishing, skiing, and sport-shooting, but his truest passion was spending time with his wife and family. He divided his time between Rowayton, CT and Weston, VT. He was a member of various Yacht Clubs and Gun Clubs. Dick and Andy particularly enjoyed fishing and bird watching at the Wantastiquet Trout Club. He also spent many enjoyable hours as a member of the Silvermine Golf Club. Dick Williams was well known for his calm gentlemanlike qualities, plus his strong sense of integrity. He was also full of wit and dry humor. He was highly respected and trusted by his many friends. Dick was predeceased by his wife Andy in November of 2007. He was also predeceased by his sister Diana Williams. Dick is survived by his children Lynn Williams of Branford, CT, Treat Williams (spouse Pamela) of Manchester, VT, and Andrea W. Brown (spouse David Brown) of Easton, CT. Grandchildren Stephanie Feigin (husband Daniel), Sarah Verhoeff, Gil Williams, Elinor Williams, and Samantha L. Brown and great-grandchildren Jackson and Dylan Feigin. Dick is also survived by his sister Marcia Perry of Fairway, Kansas, brother Mark Williams of Moneta, Virginia, nephew Robin Williams of New York, New York and his lifelong friend Jane Atkins of Stamford, CT. Burial services will be private. A service celebrating Dick's life will be held in Rowayton in July. My sincere condolences to Treat, Lynn and Andrea. Your dad was a gentleman and one of the "sweetest" dads I knew. I hold such fond memories of both your mom and dad as we spent time on Five Mile River in your lovely home. May God grant him eternal rest and peace.
