Peter Francis Murphy Obituary
MURPHY, Peter F. Peter Francis Murphy, 64, beloved husband of Gloria McGinnity Murphy, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Peter was born in New Haven, April 21, 1948, a son of the late James Joseph and Mae Hill Murphy, and had lived in West Haven for 52 years. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served honorably during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1973. He was assigned duty on the USS Klondike and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Peter retired as Signalman in 2006 after 32 years with Metro North Railroad. In addition to his loving wife Gloria, Peter is survived by his twin sister, Patricia Guarino and her husband William of West Haven, a brother, Douglas Murphy, of Las Vegas; a niece Jennifer Guarino and her husband Nathan Trier, of New Haven; two nephews, Michael Guarino and his wife Jennifer, of Seymour, and Jeffrey Guarino and his wife Jolene, of West Haven. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Nellie McGinnity of West Haven. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Fred McGinnity. Peter enjoyed the casino, loved to play Bocce, and was an avid fan of both the N.Y. Yankees and UCONN Girls Basketball. The funeral will be from the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven, Saturday morning at 8:15 with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Victory Church, West Haven, at 9:00. Burial with Military Honors will be in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening from 4:00 to 8:00.
