Bernice Steinberg Obituary
STEINBERG, BERNICE Bernice Steinberg, 91, of Henrico, Va. formerly of New Haven, CT and Deerfield Beach, FL passed away on July 1, 2013 at the Beth Sholom Gardens Assisted Living Facility, where she was a resident for the last two years. She was the loving wife for over 53 years of the late Herman (Hy) Steinberg. Mrs. Steinberg was born in New Haven, CT, daughter of the late Morris and Elise Lapides. She is survived by a son, Steven Steinberg of Hamden, CT, a daughter Phyllis (Dr. Kenneth) Ellenbogen of Henrico, VA, three grandchildren, Dr. Michael Ellenbogen of Chicago. IL, Dr Amy Ellenbogen (Stephen Bartenstein) of Washington, D.C. and Bethany Ellenbogen of Henrico, VA. and 3 nephews and a niece. She was a graduate of Hillhouse High School and worked for Columbia Lumber and prior to her retirement was Office Manager for Surgical Associates of New Haven, a job she loved. She was an involved member of the Davis Street School and Sheridan Junior High School PTAs. For many years she was a local volunteer organizer for the March of Dimes, a board member of the United Order of True Sisters and volunteer for a local school for the deaf. She was a former member of Westville Synagogue and The New Haven Jewish Community Center. She enjoyed spending summers at the beach in Milford, CT, baking, knitting, traveling the northeast with her family and playing mah jong and bridge. She was for many years editor of the Hillsboro Cove News Letter. Funeral services will be Friday, July 5, 3:15 p.m. at the Star of David Funeral Home, 7701 Bailey Road, North Lauderdale, FL.
