Margaret Jensen Obituary

jENSEN, Margaret Anning (Migs), 92 On July 11 of natural causes. Pre-deceased by Carl, her loving husband of 40 years, by her sister Elizabeth (Robert) Dobson, brother Edwin (Marge Saslawsky) and life-long friend Anne McVicar. Survived by sons Ted and Rick (Kathryn), step-daughter Sonya, grandchildren Kristen (Santiago) Campos, Kim, Kyle and Erik, and beloved nieces and nephews, especially Cathy (Steve) Witherow, Lynn Wilson and Kathy (Hugh) Southern. The love of Margaret's life was music. It was music that she studied at Oberlin, Skidmore and Columbia; that she taught in Montana, Tennessee and Connecticut; and that brought her and Carl together on the train to the Delaware Water Gap for a choral workshop. From drum major at Bronxville High to community choruses in Hamden and Southington to founding member of the Ashlar Village chorus, Migs sang, played in or directed dozens of musical groups throughout her life. But that's not all. Migs also had a sense of adventure. Whether striking out on the road to visit family or friends, or climbing into the cockpit for a flight around the Adirondacks Migs loved to see the country. She also acted on her sense of civic duty by volunteering with the League of Women Voters and the Red Cross. Thank you to all who spent time with Margaret over the past few years, when her physical abilities could no longer keep up with her adventurous spirit. And a most heartfelt Thank You to the Masonicare nurses who cared so lovingly for her. A memorial service celebrating her life and spirit will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 3 pm in the chapel of the Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford, CT. In lieu of flowers, Margaret would ask that you support your local chorus, orchestra, marching band or other musical group.

Rick, your mom was one of the kindest and gentlest people I knew growing up (the other was your Dad). I always felt so warmly welcome going over to your house. I miss them both. Hope to see you at the memorial service or look me up on Facebook or LinkedIn.

Peace and love to "Migs" and her family. We McVicars knew her always, as she and our Mother, Anne McVicar, childhood friends from Bronxville, NY,always kept in touch -- her wide smile will be in my heart and her friendship with Mom through thick and thin will always be cherished.

Rick and Ted, it's probably been almost 40 years since we've spoken, but I wanted to send condolences on your mom's passing. Michael sent me the notice and it brought back a flood of great memories of Vantage Road and your mom, who I still remember as a wonderful person. Best wishes to you and your families.

"Mrs. Jensen" (as I always called her) was a second mom, three houses down from ours. She was a warm, caring and giving person, whether she was leading the Cub Scout troop (which I was in), or just offering food and drink to a dozen boys just finished playing baseball. Even though it's been about 30 years since I last was on Vantage Road, I can still see her in my mind's eye answering the front door -- or leading elementary school students in song. She will be missed.

I was saddened to learn of Margaret's passing. I sang with her for many years in the choir at Trinity Lutheran Church under the leadership of her husband Carl. Please accept my family's condolences.
