Obituary Condolences

MCCLYMONT, JOHN W. John Wilbur McClymont died of heart failure on August 6, 2013 at his home in Winthrop, Maine. He was born February 13, 1925 in Geneseo, New York, the son of John and Laura Leonard McClymont. After his high school graduation he enlisted and served in the Army Air Force until October 1945. He was stationed in England and flew on 35 missions over Europe. He received his B.A. and Masters degrees in Science from Syracuse University in September 1950. In February 1955 he received his Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He taught Botany and Biology in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, West Virginia and in Findlay, Ohio. In September 1965 he started teaching at Southern Connecticut University in New Haven until his retirement in August 1986. He lived in Connecticut until June 2012 and then moved to Winthrop, Maine to be near his son. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Irmgard McClymont, his son, Thomas and his wife, Gail, all of Winthrop, his sister, Emma Gustafson and her husband, Bob, of Melbourne, Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews. John was a member and lay reader in the Episcopal Church since his student days as faith was important to him. His funeral service was held on Saturday, August 10th at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Hallowell, Maine. Arrangements were in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, ME 04364.
