Shelley Chamberlain Obituary
CHAMBERLAIN, SHELLEY Shelley Hopson Chamberlain, with her husband Lee at her side and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and Hospice Home Care was transported from this earthly plane to her final Heavenly Home on November 9, 2013. She fought the good fight for 11 months against metastatic breast cancer using the motto “We are all in this together” to get her through. She was born 10/19/1945 in New Haven to James and Jean Foote Hopson of East Haven. She was predeceased by her father. She was the wife of 46 years to Lee Chamberlain whom she met when they were in high school. She was the mother of Erik (Bianca) Chamberlain and Mari (Mike) Mariano and the loving Granna to Megan, Matthew and Miles who adored her. She was the sister to Frank (Carole) Hopson of East Haven and Gary (Shelley) Hopson of Maryland. She was the sister-in-law to Linda Lynehan of Newburyport, MA. and an aunt to several nieces and a nephew. Shelley grew up in East Haven and attended school there through high school. She attended and graduated from SCSU with a degree in Phys Ed. She taught elementary physical education in the Montville school district for four years before leaving to raise her family. She worked as a swim instructor/guard at the YWCA in New Haven and later at Albertus Magnus College where she taught swimming lessons to countless people young and old. She attended massage therapy school and upon graduation worked at Anatomical Arts with her long time friend, Lenore Shapiro, for the last 20 years until her illness prevented her from continuing. She was a friend to all. Her high school yearbook stated that she was “injected with a ray of sunshine” upon birth. That was for sure! She was a woman of unwavering faith and shared this faith with all. She had many friends and will miss them. Her family would like to thank all who ministered to her needs at Smilow Hospital, Guilford House, Branford Hospice, Hospice Home Care and Can Support as well as her Doctors Donna Criscenzo and Kay Haedicke. They are all angels and we couldn’t have made it through this without them, as well as all who provided prayer support, visits and meals, God Bless you. There will be a Life Celebration Gathering on Sunday, November 24th, at the North Guilford Congregational Church, 159 Ledge Hill Road, North Guilford, CT from 2:30-4:30pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Connecticut Hospice Inc., PO BOX 783, Branford, CT 06405.
