ABATE, MADELINE Y. ESPOSITO Madeline Yolanda (Esposito) Abate, 83, died Nov. 22 at Lawrence and Memorial hospital after a long illness. She was born March 16, 1930 in New Haven CT, the daughter of the late Carl and Mary (Falcone) Esposito. Madeline was a graduate of Hillhouse H.S. and New Haven State Teachers College, Class of 1952, with a degree in Special Education. She taught Special Ed. in New Haven until her marriage at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in New Haven CT in June 1953. The Abate family made their home in Uncasville CT in August 1960 where they raised their family. In addition to her career as a loving wife and mother, Madeline was very active at St. John’s R.C. Church in Uncasville as a member of the Rosary Alter Society and St. John’s Couples Club. For many years she provided religious instruction to the exceptional children at St. John’s and as a volunteer at the Waterford Country School in Waterford CT. She was a loyal supporter of St. Bernard’s High School where all of her children matriculated. Madeline was known for her craft and decoration skills. She beautified the environment of many dance and wedding reception in the Uncasville Community, until her health began to fail. She was a proud mother of eight children: Mark, Michael, Margaret, Teresa, Maria, Christopher, Steven and Paul. She was predeceased by her infant daughter Maria and her son Paul. Madeline was the proud grandmother of grandsons Christopher, Patrick, Dylan, Austin, Matthew, and granddaughters Elizabeth, Danielle and Michaela. She is survived by her husband of sixty years Richard A. Abate. Her life touched many people. She was always patient, kind, never rude, selfish, boastful, conceited or resentful. She was always ready to give, to trust and to endure whatever came her way. Madeline was a role model to all of us. First and foremost, she was a loving wife and mother. Calling hours will be held on Nov. 27, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Ave, in Uncasville. There will also be an opportunity for viewing at the funeral home begging at 9 am prior to a Mass which will be held at St. John’s R.C. Church on Maple Ave. in Uncasville at 10 am on Nov. 29.
