Virginia Lemmon Obituary
LEMMON, VIRGINIA RUTH A. Virginia Ruth Alling Lemmon, 93, of Wallingford, CT, beloved wife of the late William J. Lemmon, peacefully passed away at home on April 4, 2014, after a long illness. Virginia was born in West Haven on September 29, 1920, to the late Harvey M. and Emily B. Alling. Living most of her life in New Haven, East Haven and Hamden, Virginia was a graduate of Commercial HS, class of 1939, and was employed by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co as a secretary and by Echlin Automotive as an inspector. With her husband Bill she enjoyed country western music and square dancing and was a member of the Temple Sweethearts dancing group. She also loved camping and traveled with Bill around the country and to parts of Canada and spent many years camping at Riverdale Camp Grounds in Clinton. Left to cherish her memory is son Gary and his wife Carol Jean of Branford, grandson Brian and his wife Tatiana and great granddaughter Nadia of Wallingford, great granddaughter Victoria Lemmon of Madison, great grandson Nicholas Lemmon of Madison, beloved sister Beatrice Alling O’Connor of Wallingford, sisters-in-laws Agnes Shipley of Durham, Mildred Copeland of CA, and Hugette Lemmon of Nemeurs, France. Also left to miss her, are nieces Laurel Vollono (Steve), Suzanne Colligan (Gerard) and Tina O’Connor, and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a special nephew Daniel O’Connor, Jr. Virginia also leaves her little dog and constant companion Metoo who never left her side. Virginia was lovingly cared for by her two nieces, Laurel and Suzanne and her sister Beatrice and the care givers at Masonicare Home Hospice during her illness. Virginia’s family will receive relatives and friends Thursday, April 10, 2014, from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St Ext, Wallingford, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Yalesville United Methodist Church, 8 New Place St., Yalesville where a service will be held at 11 AM. Burial will take place at Beaverdale Memorial Park in Hamden.
