Kenneth Hulme Obituary

HULME, REV. KENNETH E. The Reverend Kenneth E. Hulme, of Ashlar Village in Wallingford, beloved husband of Beverly Coulthurst Hulme, entered into eternal life on April 18, 2014, at the Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford. Born in Providence, RI on December 2, 1932, the son of Raymond E. Hulme and Gladys (Imhoff) Hulme, Ken attended Brown University and graduated from Boston University’s School of Communications in 1954. After a brief career in the television industry and serving in the U.S Army from 1956 to 1958, he enrolled at the Berkeley Divinity School in New Haven, graduating in 1961. He was ordained a Priest in the Episcopal church by the Rt. Rev. John Seville Higgins in December, 1961, and that year was made Vicar of St. Matthias Church in Coventry, RI. He subsequently was Rector of The Church of the Ascension in Cranston, RI, Associate Rector of St. Paul’s Church in Riverside, CT, and, in 1975, became Rector of St. Peter’s Church in Milford until his retirement in 1997. During his tenure at St. Peter’s, he was active in many community organizations, including Chapter Chairman of Milford Red Cross, Chairman of the Board of United Way, Combined Parishes Action Committee, Milford Rotary, Mutual Housing Assoc. of South Central Ct. He received the Milford Chamber of Commerce Humanitarian Award and was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. He served on several committees in the Diocese of CT and was Editor of the CT Churchman for several years. He served on the board for SIM, Society for the Increase of the Ministry. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to the Lakes Region of New Hampshire for 10 years, returning to CT in 2007. In addition to his loving wife of 59 years, he is survived by his son, David E. Hulme and wife Kimberly; his daughter, Deborah Soracco and husband Christopher; and four dearly loved grandchildren, Hayden and Daniel Hulme, and Devin and Rowan Soracco. He is also survived by four nieces. A service in celebration of his life will be held at St. Peter’s Church, Milford, on Friday April 25, 2014, at 11:00 am. Friends may call at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford, on Thursday from 5 to 8 pm. Interment will be held in Rhode Island at a later date. Gifts may be made to St . Peter’s Church, 71 River St., Milford, CT, 06460; or to the Alzheimer’s Society of CT, 2075 Silas Deane Hwy., Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
