DAVID CURRIER Obituary

CURRIER, DAVID F. “SPIKE” David F. Currier died with his family on October 1, 2014. Born at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital, NYC in 1943, Spike, as he was nicknamed by his family, grew up in New Haven & Buffalo Bay(Madison) amid a close-knit group of friends. He graduated from Yale in 1967 and in 1986 from Pace University, where he earned an MBA, spending the bulk of his career working in both Connecticut & New York. With his loving partner & wife of 35 years, Barbary “Bo” Whalen, Spike lived in Stony Creek. The life-style allowed his blend of natural sociability with fierce independence, and he became a devoted “Creeker.” He had an analytic mind that he liked to sharpen with wide reading, games of setback, and crossword puzzles, and he relaxed to political folk rock. He is survived by a son—Brendon “Maxwell” Whalen, of Stony Creek; two older sons and two daughters—David Currier, Ned Currier & Jane Cullipher, of Virginia; Cate Suzuki, of Delaware; three grandchildren; and four siblings. A cremation is planned, with private interment, & a celebration of Spike’s life is planned for October 12 at 1PM at the Stony Creek Fife & Drum Corps, 215 Thimble Island Road, Stony Creek, CT 06405. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Willoughby Wallace Library, 146 Thimble Island Road.

To the Family of Spike Currier,

I was so saddened to learn of Spike's passing.

We were classmates at The Foote School. I remember so many times having to go back and forth to exchange misdirected mail with Spike since the Hoseleys lived at 45 Edgehill Road and the Joneses (me) lived at 45 Edgehill Terrace.

It has been a number of years since I last saw Spike but I always liked him and remember him being a very nice guy. How lucky he was to have been living in Stony Creek...such a treasure of a town. I loved taking the ferry or driving the speedboat to Merry Oak, my in-laws" summer home in the Thimble Islands. I am sure the community has rallied around you and will continue to provide you with some support.

I send my deepest condolences.
