Mr, Garvey was my English teacher in West Haven. He also was the leader of our "Book Closet." Throughout the year during class and in the book closet he provided inspiration and guidance. He may never have known it but he was instrumental in my life. His words guide me to this day.

Dearest Claire and family,
Words cannot express how I feel about losing Jack. He was a gentleman, a scholar, but most of all, a true friend. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Sam (Merle Stevens)

When I first started teaching in 1974, Jack was my first department head. Once, when I had had a particularly tough day, he called me into his office and said, "Be glad the day is over, because tomorrow will be better." He was right and I still live that way. Thanks, Jack.
